Vestry News
News from the June Vestry meeting:
• The Property Committee will replace some Church doors, provide a barrier in the parking lot outside the rector’s window where a large planting was removed, and assess the settling problem of the Church building. The external trim of the Church will be painted as contracted. A commercial refrigerator will be purchased for parish and AA use. Carpet removal in the sanctuary is on hold until the status of the underlay has been established.
• There will be another reader training session in the fall that those who were not able to be present on May 25 will have an opportunity to attend.
• Twenty-six men attended the May 31 Men’s Association breakfast. There will be “A Jolly
Men’s Jaunt” in July.
• The Wednesday morning Bible study group completed its work on The Book of Isaiah and
is now studying themes in the Bible.
• Services at Crystal Lake will take place at 9:15. There will be some planning for ways to help those who have trouble walking to reach the seats.
• Many complimentary things were said about Bill Carlton, outgoing Senior Warden, David Bernard, outgoing Junior Warden, Chuck Gasior, outgoing Clerk and new Treasurer, Bill Seaward, Mary Beebe, Carole Dwyer, Sarah Horvath and Paul Soares for their roles in the last three years of St. Peter’s Vestry.
• There is a real need for coffee hour hosts and hostesses for our parish. Building fellowship
is an important ministry of the Church.
Highlights of the Annual Meeting
Sunday, June 15, 2008
Copies of the Annual Report are available in the office.
• Well over 70 parishioners attended the meeting following the ten o’clock service.
• The revised Parish By-laws were approved and will be forwarded to the Diocesan Standing
Committee for final ratification. (This process started back in 2005!)
• The Nominating Committee was accepted and voted enthusiastically:
RONALD E. REED, Senior Warden, CAROLE A. DWYER, Junior Warden,
MAUREEN K. TEMPESTA, Clerk, CHARLES E. GASIOR, Treasurer
Members of the Vestry
CHRISTOPHER W. BEDENKOP, ADRIENNE CARLTON, J. NEIL FORSTER &
GREGORY K. MILLER
Deanery Representative: GREGORY K. MILLER
• Financial reports from 2007 and projections for 2008 were presented.
• The need for follow-through in securing additional pledges this year was stressed.
• Creation of an active Finance Committee and a Property Committee was welcomed.
• The Search Committee reported that 6 candidates on the “A-list” are being visited.
• Under the Pastoral Report, our interim priest thanked the staff for wonderful work and appreciated
his association with Dr. Gene, Fr. Paul and Fr. Russ. He cited the “Zone Organization of the Parish” which is a move toward identifying lay zone hosts (individuals or couples) who might sponsor a cottage meeting this fall for telling our stewardship story to fellow parishioners.
Fr. Anthony stressed the strong association between St. Peter’s Parish and the Nursery School. We are trying to enhance the infrastructure of the parish in terms of committees and planning as we anticipate the call of a new rector. Linda Tetreault was applauded for her great contributions to this parish as Director of Christian Education. She is leaving the position
this summer but is working closely with an interview committee to secure her successor.
• Both Wardens offered significant remarks about our staff leadership, property issues, their
gratitude for the support of parishioners and the Vestry in particular as they step down from
solid achievement. In the estimation of many in attendance at this meeting, each of them provided
inspiration and confidence for our future here at S. Peter’s Church.
• While there were very few questions or concerns raised at the annual meeting, there is the
ongoing assurance that the leadership here is open to parishioners’ ideas and criticisms.
• The meeting adjourned shortly after noon with a heartfelt prayer led by Fr. Allen.
