Weekly Bible Studycontinues each Wednesday from 10:30 - 11:30 in the parish library. You are welcome at any time, whenever you can join us. We are planning three special study events this summer:

1. a short series entitled: “Hands On Bible.” This is recommended for people who would like a basic introduction to the Bible, its message and types of literature, bringing more confidence about bible reading and where things are. If there is enough interest, we will offer an evening program on certain Tuesday nights as well as the Wednesday morning session (starting July 9th at 10:30 a.m.)

2. Then another short series entitled: “How to Use the Prayer Book.” Again, we will offer this close look at the Book of Common Prayer on a Wednesday in late July and then, perhaps on a Tuesday evening.

3. In August, Tuesday the 19th and 26th, we will feature “Two Cool Evenings of Revelation.” This
will present an overview of the largely ignored (even feared) and misunderstood BOOK OF REVELATION, and then a second session on the Seven Letters to the Churches (chapters 1 - 3) which contain messages for our church today. These two study sessions will begin at 7 p.m. with simple refreshments ending at 8:30 p.m. and will be repeated on Wednesday, August 20th and 27th at 10:30 a.m.

PLEASE CALL THE PARISH OFFICE TO REGISTER YOUR INTEREST IN ATTENDING ANY OF THE ABOVE. WE NEED TO KNOW IN ADVANCE.

“Down Home Devotions” is a regular mailing of inspiration to our homebound members. Our editor is Janet Thornton who welcomes submissions of brief, inspirational writing from other parishioners. Please let Janet know of your willingness to extend our outreach.

Pledge informational packets are available for parishioners and friends of St. Peter’s Church. They include a 2008 pledge card. Pledging is a way for each of us to return to God a portion of God’s bountiful gifts to us. It also allows church leaders to know in advance how much will be available and enables committees and staff to plan for projects and programs to advance our ministries here. Any parishioner who wishes to submit a pledge card before then may obtain one from the church office. You can also make a pledge online.

Some of you may be aware that there are several St Peter’s ladies who are quietly knitting prayer shawls for the comfort  of those in need of solace and support.  This silent mission continues and has proved to be of great value to the recipients.  Please consider being one of the “backstage hands”. For details call: Janet Thorntton at 508 420-2027.

The Salvation Army Miracle Kitchen will take place on the second Tuesday of the month. Lunch will be prepared and served at the Soup Kitchen in Hyannis.

Your small contributions to the Discretionary Fund at this time of year, enable your clergy to help people quietly.

St. Peter’s Prayer Group will meet each Thursday the church sanctuary between 5:00 & 6:00 pm. All are welcome. If you cannot join us, there is a prayer box in the hall to put your specific prayer request. We will include it in our intercessions. For more information, please contact Bobbie Grimes at 508-775-1334..

Thinking of summer cookouts, salads and entertaining? When you shop for your summer
meals, please include a few extra non perishable items for our food pantry. Summer staples such as ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, relish, potato chips, salad dressings, boxed pasta salad, iced tea and lemonade mixes, paper plates, napkins, etc. are always welcome. In addition, items needed include canned soups; jarred fruit; individual snack containers of fruit, jello or pudding; one box meals; coffee; and, of course, peanut butter! The Food Pantry is open on Wednesday mornings so your donations would
be appreciated by Tuesday morning in order for us to stock and shop for other needed
items. If you would prefer for us to shop, please leave a check in the church office with the notation, “Food Pantry,” and we’ll take care of the rest.

A new NOAH Shelter dinner sign-up is now available on the bulletin board. St. Peter’s delivers one dinner (for 60) per month - can you help? Individuals and/or groups are encouraged to participate.

St. Peter’s Outreach will be holding a fundraising cocktail party on Thursday, August 21 at the Wianno
Yacht Club on Bridge Street in Osterville from 5 to 7:30. All proceeds will benefit St. Peter’s many important outreach programs - Habitat for Humanity, NOAH Shelter, Big Brother/Big Sister, Salvation Army, and more, all for the good of our local Cape Cod Community. We’ll have a great silent auction with terrific Red Sox Tickets, gift certificates and services.
All are invited. Don’t miss it!

Our committee is in need of a few more items for the silent auction at Party By The Sea on August 21,
2008. Donations should have a minimum value of $50-$100, and tax receipts are available. Items not
used for the auction will be held for the Harvest Fair Gift Boutique. Donations should be in the church
office by July 15th. Please call with any questions.

The Outreach Committee has voted CapeAbilities Farm on Rte. 6A in Dennis, to be the recipient of our summer white envelope collection on July 13th. CapeAbilities, formerly known as Nauset Workshop, specializes in developing independent and secure futures for physically and mentally disabled individuals, by providing housing, education, and on-the-job training. There are over 50 people with disabilities working in all aspects of farm management at the farm. In May, twelve of our members toured this inspiring facility, where fresh produce is raised and sold to the public, as well as several Cape restaurants. Please lend your support to this worthy organization.

We are looking for someone to take over the job of selling Food Cards on Sunday mornings. Resa Giles will be giving it up the end of June. She is willing to train the next person and can be reached at 508-428-0106.

We are hoping to find a few more volunteers to occasionally offer rides to healthy parishioners who can no longer drive and miss attending Sunday services. If you can participate in this “Motor Ministry”once a month or so, pick up someone whose house you might pass on the way, it could be a special gift to those with no means of attending St. Peter’s. We also need someone who has a spare hour or two a week to coordinate this much needed service. Please speak to Fr. Russ or call the office.

We are revising our parish prayer list, if you would like to add a name or ask for continued prayers, please call Alison in the parish office. Also, it would be helpful to let us know when a name can be removed.

If you wish to reserve a particular date to remember a loved one with altar flowers, please call or email the office with that date. The requested donation for altar flowers is $60.

Please be certain to e-mail  the office if you would like to receive your monthly Cross Keys via your e-mail address.

If you are doing spring cleaning or weeding out, please remember any unwanted jewelry would be most welcome for St. Peter’s Harvest Fair. It’s never too early for us to start pricing. Items may be left in the office, marked Harvest Fair. Many thanks, Nancy Dwarnick & Barbara Glatley
